The first half of 2025 has seen Women in Network Plus (WiN+) charging full speed ahead. With new initiatives inspiring events, and even an exciting new sponsorship deal that’s set to take the network to the next level.
The year began with the launch of a new sub-group Reproductive Health. Designed to raise awareness around fertility, pregnancy loss and menstruation, the group provides a safe space for colleagues to share their experiences and support one another. It also aims to start a wider conversations across the business with the aim of creating a guide to help managers understand how to support team members navigating these sensitive topics.
In March WiN+ took to the road for a series of International Women’s Day roadshows. The first stop was Worsley, where guest speakers Jennifer Gray and Lucy Sterry from Cadent shared their experiences around diversity and inclusion in the gas sector. From there, the roadshow headed to Derby, featuring Nicola Evans from Skweb, who delivered a though-provoking sessions that resonated with attendees. The final stop was the Bristol Water offices, where Sandra Gordon from the Bristol Women in Business Charter sparked a lively discussion on driving change for women in business.
Looking ahead, WiN+ is set to make an impact on the field – literally. From August, the network will proudly sponsor the Exeter Chiefs Women’s Rugby Team, with the WiN+ logo appearing on the back of the team’s shirt. This new partnership offers exciting opportunities for engagement, including attending games, hosting events, and expanding the network’s presence in the South West.
WiN+ also took centre stage on the ‘People of Network Plus’ podcast, featuring in a special panel episode focused on diversity and inclusion.
The episode included Tracy Derbyshire, Head of Operational HR, alongside Eve Leary and Laura Wolstencroft, who lead on diversity and mental health respectively. As active members of WiN+, they shared powerful insights into the experience of women in the workplace today.
Reflecting on her own journey, Tracy said:
“I’ve been in this industry and this business for around over 20 years. I was the only female sat around the table in a meeting. This still does happen some days – not so much now. That can sometimes be a daunting experience. Do you have a voice? Is that voice going to be listened to? Women in Network Plus purely started off as ‘let’s have a group where like-minded women can speak to each other’ – and it has just grown arms and legs.’
With momentum building and plenty more planned, it’s safe to say that 2025 is already shaping up to be a WiNing year for the Women in Network Plus.
