Challenging conditions in Cumbria for our Water Teams

The team repaired a burst main up Old Man Coniston in the lakes in November. With extreme weather conditions and the height of the repair, the team were awarded the November POP Award for their efforts. Due to the challenging nature of the work and the quick turnaround, we have received several commendations from managers and our client, United Utilities.

We’d also like to give a big shout out to all of the wider team working on this contract. Liam Hall is our Operations Manager and he said:

“These lads always do a great job. This particular week just demonstrates how good this team really is. I’m so proud to have all of them with us.”

Not only was the location difficult to reach, as they got further up the mountain, the weather became more challenging.

The repair was complex and resulted in us calling our trusted partner Utiliko who are based in Cumbria to assist. This particular water source caters to many properties in Cumbria, so it was crucial to handle the repair in real time. The team worked throughout the week and weekend to ensure it was completed as quickly as possible.

#ThingsOurClientsSay…

“A huge thank you for this piece of work that we have all had an input into this week. Working on top of a mountain in severe weather conditions hasn’t probably been done before, safety at the for front, but delivery in mind equalled a great result.”

Christian Wheeler, Integrated Network Programme Delivery Manager

“It’s been a sterling effort by everyone.  As soon as the call was made the job was safe, well planned and controlled.” Stephen Walker, Area Business Manager Water Treatment North

“Well done everyone, and thank you – dealing with this and Preston together has been great effort and all done safely most importantly.” Andrew Kendall, Water Network Business Manager (North)

“Thanks to everyone who has worked in extremely testing conditions to get the main repaired whilst keeping everyone on supply.”  Grant Batty, Water Services Director
