A warm welcome to our Filippino linesmen

Network Plus is expanding in various sectors, including power where we are dedicated to addressing our clients’ current and future needs with ambitious plans for the next regulatory period.

At the heart of these plans is having the right people in the right place, and to achieve this we are investing heavily in Overhead Lines (OHL) trainees, apprenticeships and UK recruitment.

Overseas recruitment also has a part to play in meeting immediate demand, and we are bringing in skilled and fully qualified from the Philippines. We recently welcomed a new cohort of Filipino linesmen onto our contract with Scottish power. The UK’s power network has a lot of similarities to the Philippines which makes the transition to the UK more effective and will rapidly bolster Network Plus’s capability, working alongside the company’s homegrown talent.

Network Plus Contracts Manager, Matt Woodfine, explains:

“Our relationship with the Philippines began around seven months ago. We are recruiting in the UK, and rapidly developing our own talent through training and apprenticeship programmes, but the industry has a skills shortage to tackle and this investment helps us meet the immediate and growing demand.”

A total of 58 Filippino linespeople have been recruited by Network Plus to work on contracts across the UK, eight of them on the Scottish Power contract.

“We have been to the Philippines to set up assessments and skill tests, and then once in the UK the successful recruits enter our purpose-built training centre in Powys. This training centre is a first for Network Plus, an integral part of their familiarisation and a place where they can learn the skills to pass their Scottish Power authorisations.”

Network Plus Managing Director, Dave Prescott, adds:

“As we continue to expand our operations across the UK, we are actively recruiting in the overhead lines sector to meet our client demands into the next regulatory period. The current initiative represents a 23% increase in our resource and a £9million investment. Our ambitious plans will continue with the aim to make Network Plus the largest provider of overhead lines resource in the UK.”
