For more than 20 years, since the year 2000, we have been serving the UK’s major water utility suppliers. We have developed long-standing, collaborative partnerships with our clients, such as United Utilities who we have been working on behalf of since 2000.

Our portfolio of water services

Our clean water services are vast and diverse, ranging from the installation of new pipelines and water mains through to the delivery of routine maintenance activities to ensure the continuity of water supplies to households and businesses across the UK. We are experts at what we do. Our teams deliver 24/7 for our clients, every single day.

Water repair and maintenance services

Across the UK there is a vast water infrastructure network that requires continuous maintenance to operate effectively. We carry out repair and maintenance activities on this network for our clients. This consists of reactive and proactive services, with the teams at Network Plus delivering 24/7 emergency support.

The work we carry out includes trunk main support, network leakage detection and repair, renewal / repair / relocation of stop taps, helping customers directly with internal plumbing repairs – private leakage, installing valves or hydrants, replacing or repairing water supply pipes, lead pipe replacement, diversions and inspecting frames and covers – street furniture.

For each client this equates to thousands of water jobs per year, ranging from 5,000 right through to in excess of 100,000 – with our teams helping the water reach millions of homes and businesses.

Water developer services

At Network Plus, our teams have extensive experience of delivering developer services where on behalf of our clients we supply and install water mains for new housing developments so they can connect to the network. We cater for all types of developments and often carry out complex, large scale connection programmes.

This can include the decommissioning or diversion of old water mains, the installation of manifolds, chambers and water meters and completing supply pipe inspections of self-laid water mains to our client’s network and much more.

As experts you can be confident that any new developments are connected safely, securely and adhere to strict regulation and guidelines. We deliver upwards of 30,000 jobs each year in this area on behalf of many of our key clients including Affinity Water, United Utilities, Severn Trent, Yorkshire Water, Northumbrian Water and Bristol Water.

Water capital infrastructure projects

As the population and geographic makeup of the UK changes so does our demand and needs from our water supply. Capital infrastructure projects is work determined by our clients as required to build and sustain a suitable and effective water supply to meet changing needs on our water network. We carry out a range of capital and minor capital project works to help build the and maintain the network for future generations, carrying out mains design, build and commissioning, laying new trunk mains and diversions and laying new water infrastructure assets. Our team of experts deliver these services on behalf of key clients including Yorkshire Water, United Utilities, South Staffordshire Water and Severn Trent.

Water design services

On behalf of a number of clients including United Utilities and Yorkshire Water, our in-house design team carry out detailed design, design modelling and support our capital projects to find innovative design solutions. Our water design team will work alongside clients through Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) and carry out feasibility studies.

Water metering services

Our industry leading water metering teams provide internal and external metering services, for residential and commercial properties across the UK. The Network Plus engineers are fully accredited and certified to replace, repair and install all water meter types, covering the full range of water meter installation techniques including screw-in, external boundary box and internal meter installation. We provide these services on behalf of clients such as Severn Trent, Bristol Water, Affinity Water, Yorkshire Water and United Utilities, installing over 200,000 optant and proactive meters each year.

Our in-depth knowledge, years of experience and vast capabilities sees us deliver vital water infrastructure services each day, helping provide a safe, reliable supply of water.

Leak detection

We support a number of companies including Affinity Water, Bristol Water, United Utilities and Yorkshire Water to carry out activities associated with leak detection and repair. For some, such as Affinity Water, we install smart meters which are able to detect potential leaks on the network before customers notice and report them. For others, we carry out leak detection using more traditional methods. These include nightlines and using specialist listening devices.

We are able to provide resources at short notice to meet peak demand requirements. For example, some water companies experience a higher incidence of leaks as a result of sudden fluctuations in weather (‘freeze-thaw’) or as a result of dry conditions when water supplies are moved between regions to ensure continuity of supplies.

Strategic renewals and refurbishments

With South Staffordshire Water and Cambridge Water, we have delivered over 65km of poor condition mains replacement, minor mains improvements and strategic mains along with circa 8km of mains diversions.

Action

Innovating in developer services for United Utilities

Network Plus began the delivery of services to developers (find out more about our developer services here), housebuilders and businesses in 2015 on behalf of United Utilities. This contract sees our teams providing end to end coverage of the water connection and metering services processes across the entire region, from Crewe to Cumbria.

As part of our services, we carry out the planning and scheduling of work, arranging appointments and surveys with developers and housebuilders at each stage of the development. To make this extensive liaison process as smooth as possible our back-office support team co-locate with United Utilities.

To create further collaboration between site and the back office teams we created a bespoke system / app that provides real-time information from site to the teams. Functionality includes being able to view photographic evidence of work and site information, which can be instantly shared with the client.

We also worked with our client to test their innovation which ensures right first-time connections, minimising potential leakage and helped implement it across our teams.

For this contract we have also implemented a ‘Pre-Quote’ model, where we undertake the initial visit to site, and provide construction guidance, pricing and planning input before United Utilities issue a quote. By attending site earlier and supporting quote development, we have removed the need for subsequent surveys on a proportion of the works.

Water metering innovation for Severn Trent

Network Plus undertakes the installation, repair and maintenance of water meters on behalf of Severn Trent, operating throughout their network in the East and West Midlands. We complete both internal and external installations, which includes customer appointments, planning and scheduling work, which is all managed from our regional headquarters in Derby.

To ensure planning and operational success we use our in-house, bespoke GARD management system, with our GARD mobile application. This captures individual meter details live on site by scanning barcodes or QR codes, to ensure data accuracy. It talks directly to our client’s system and data is transferred seamlessly. This gives Severn Trent confidence in its billing accuracy and the validation checks ensure that the customer always receives a great service.
