Logistics Supervisor – Barrow, Kingswood and Cheddar


Job Purpose

As Logistics Supervisor you will have ultimate responsibility for depots assigned to you and provide key logistical support for delivering materials to the operative teams for critical works. The depot is to be run independent to operations, where all items are booked out to allow internal and external billing, with particular attention to Fleet Plant and Free Issue stores from client, marking down all damage and missing items on the check sheet ensuring we provide a professional services at all times, while maintaining the company procedures and policies at all times. Alongside these day to day duties, there will be ad-hoc support into the Framework Manager, Compliance Officer & Site Support Manager as required.


Main Duties


• To ensure all deliveries are co-ordinated with relevant Supervisors to then take delivery at Depots.

• Delivery of critical fittings to jobs from various depots as required. This needs planning and careful consideration day by day in order to ensure minimal impact on the rest of the job role and operations.

• Organise for sending stood plant to Supply chain daily whether directly or through Supervisors

• Requesting skip exchanges

• Stores Improvements

• Manage OOH plant Key safe code changed each week, the code is only to be given to standby crew, check daily that the plant has been returned. 


• Ensure all tasks are performed to ISO standards and procedures. 

• Maximising plant and vehicle utilisation i.e. highlighting to relevant managers under utilised equipment

• Managing, controlling and reducing wastage of materials including liaising with the Site Support Manager to keep on top of depot waste material

• Take ownership of overall process – think ahead, determine and implement efficient methods of working. 

• To ensure a safe clear working environment at all times, walking the depot regularly to check all areas are safe and free of any potential hazards. 

• To ensure that the yard / stores areas are kept clean and tidy, and take ownership of this including cleaning welfare and moving plant /chapter 8 etc as required. Delegate or implement rota system for depot cleans.

• Where possible to keep security of the yard / stores to the highest level, ensuring gates are locked during the working day. 

• Ensure that space in the yards / stores areas are optimized.

• Carry out Monthly stock takes.

• Carry Monthly depot inspections.

• Collect deliver free issue of Bristol Water fittings to depots site. 

• Manage emergency stores replacement of used fittings OOH.

• Carry out weekly stock take of Bristol Water free issue stores.

• Ad-hoc delivery of Network Plus inductions where required

• Training of GARD and provision of assistance to gangs with usage including vehicle checks

• Any adhoc duties required



Experience and Qualifications Needed


• Computer literate.

• Strong, confident character to manage depots, and deliver NP inductions

• SHEA and water hygiene cards

• Necessary industry qualifications to use items of plant

• To have a maintenance background would be advantageous, this could include, maintenance of vehicles, plant, electrics etc

• Good verbal communication skills

• Good management skills

• Full UK Driving Licence

• Use of work tools – jobholder should demonstrate competence using all work tools, e.g. computers, CAT locator, fax machines, photocopiers etc. They should also demonstrate a good telephone manner, taking messages and referring callers when appropriate.  Understanding of how to use machinery.

• Initiative and confidence – job holder should be able to demonstrate a willingness to contribute new ideas to improve things and should be able to determine when to refer a matter to someone else or whether to deal with it themselves.

• Able to work under pressure and meet deadlines.

• Good motivational skills – the jobholder should be able to motivate staff.

• Good time keeping.

• Know and understand the contract they are working on.

• Deal with statutory bodies, particularly HSE and Local Authorities.

• Hold a full driving licence and adhere to the Highway Code and Company requirements whilst driving on Company business.
